Suddenly having skin irritation? Not contact dermatitis?

Have you ever noticed skin irritation, itching or a rash after wearing new clothes, using detergent or using a product? If the answer is yes, then it can be said that you have been affected by contact dermatitis at some point in your life. It is not a very harmful skin disease, but it can be quite uncomfortable at times. In today's feature we will know about contact dermatitis in detail.

What is contact dermatitis?

If the skin comes in contact with something causing irritation, itching, red rash, etc., then such a problem is called contact dermatitis. This can usually happen if you don't apply new makeup or skin care products, or wear an outfit made of wool or synthetic materials. Moreover, it can also happen if any part of the body comes in direct contact with plastic or any other allergic or discomfort-causing substance. Although it is not a serious skin disease, the itching and burning sensation is quite uncomfortable and in some cases the condition may worsen.

Why is this?

Contact dermatitis can occur on the skin of men and women of any age. Let's find out the reasons for this.

1. Using expired skincare or makeup products.

2. Using skin care products that don't suit your skin type.

3. When cleaning furniture and household items that are too acidic or too alkaline come into contact with the skin.

4. It can occur on the skin when it comes in contact with any metal, perfume or any chemical substance.

How many types are there?

Contact dermatitis is generally of two types, allergic and irritant contact dermatitis. Allergic contact dermatitis is basically an allergic reaction to a substance or material. Allergic skin reactions occur when the skin comes in contact with any new product, such as jewelry, cosmetics, synthetic fabrics, dyes, perfumes, and other products that do not suit the skin.

Symptoms

1. Eczema rash

2. Dry and flaky skin

3. itching

4. Pain and swelling

5. Excessive dryness of the skin and peeling of dead skin from dry areas

6. The affected area first turns red and then turns black

7. Skin becomes sun sensitive

Irritant contact dermatitis, on the other hand, is a very common form of dermatitis. It occurs when the skin comes in contact with toxic substances such as batteries, bleach, chlorinated water (eg swimming pool water), various cleaners, kerosene, detergents, etc. Most of these things we have to use in our daily life, it is not that this dermatitis will appear on the skin every time it is used. But sometimes the skin is irritated or sensitive, even then it can happen.

Symptoms

1. The skin may become red

2. Due to excessive dryness, dead skin is removed from the skin

3. There is burning or irritation on the skin

4. Swelling of the skin

What to do if contact dermatitis?

Usually following some simple home remedies can get rid of this skin problem.

1. Do not scratch the affected area with nails or anything. Because scratching worsens the condition of the affected area and may lead to infection, it should be avoided.

2. Mild soap and lukewarm water should be used on the skin.

3. Avoid using makeup or skincare products that do not suit the skin. Also unexpired and non-branded products cannot be used.

4. Petroleum jelly should be used on the affected skin. Also, care should be taken to ensure that the skin does not remain dry.

5. You can use different types of anti-itching lotions available in the market on the advice of a doctor.

I hope you understand that contact dermatitis is not such a harmful dermatitis, but since the skin is uncomfortable due to itching and burning, it is possible to recover quickly if the above preventive measures are followed. It takes two to four weeks to fully recover from contact dermatitis. If it still doesn't get better and the skin problem continues, then definitely consult a specialist.
